Sunglasses continue to thrive as the luxury gateway accessory for most consumers,. This is usually their first taste of the luxury good market, and the top fashion houses know this;  in many ways pricing them out at what is considered affordable for the luxury class. A great example of inverted demand curve of luxury.

Yves Saint Laurent latest, Chocolate Aviators,  are plastic framed and and house some serious UV protection. At 250$US, this is attainable for most, but more difficult to track down (via Gearcrave).
